Keep everything how it is, but expand to 8 teams. Beyond 8 teams you'll start having teams with 3 losses, and a 3 loss team isn't the best team in the nation. Top 8 teams, you'll probably have a team or two with 2 losses (which I'm still not sure should be considered for the National Title), but mostly you'll have the teams that were at the top the entire year and may have had a bad game due to injuries or what not. This is the only way to do it without watering down the playoffs, but also including everyone that truly deserves the shot.
8 teams has always been the best scenario. i think for convo purposes we were just addressing the original post.

i think most sane people understand that a playoff of 8 is all that is needed in college football. if the 9th teams gets pissed because they were left out then so be it, they shouldve done better.

there is a much stronger case for a 5th team complaining in our current situation.

I think you Make p5 conferences the only autos and at large the rest with a max of 2 at larges per conference. That would give each p5 conference a possibility of 3 teams.

If we donít give autobids to smaller conferences then teams like UCF will continue to be screwed ad infinitum. No top school will schedule a G5 team thatís any good so then their SOS sucks and we get the situation where an undefeated team that handily beat everybody they played gets left out for a team that didnít even win their own division. Absolute garbage that Alabama made it over UCF, the system is set up to f over smaller conference schools and that wonít change until they get autobids in the context of an expanded playoff field
